While most indoor fireplaces have to be connected somehow to some sort of an exhaust as a place for the fire to carry itself, there are exceptions. For anyone who thinks any differently, they should first speak to the retailer who is trying to sell them the vent less gas fireplace. It just seems rather peculiar to me that this all of this debris could go nowhere. So you should first find out all the facts and do your own research to refute whatever they say in backup your viewpoint.
There are a number of other uses you could have for your vent less fireplace. If you wanted to you could have a plasma TV over your vent less fireplace. Imagine that, a plasma television with a fireplace on the screen above your vent less fireplace down below. What a perfect Christmas morning for everyone! Seriously though if you wanted to watch television and enjoy a fireplace a plasma screen TV over your vent less fireplace is a good option.
Another option for your fireplace dollar is to have the vent less fireplace which utilizes gas logs. Gas logs are a little more expensive but are certainly a very effective and warm alternative to several of your other choices. For example, propane gas can be used in event free fireplace. While propane is less expensive, the well to do certainly appreciate gas logs greater. Electric fireplaces are also vent free. But electric fireplaces are probably the lowest on the totem pole as they're just not very realistic.
All in all vent less gas fireplaces are an alternative that many have had a look at but few actually take up. This is probably due to the complicated relationship we all play against the fireplace which exists in our minds and hearts in the fireplace that we have come to realize is our own.
